More than being a symbol that this country needed to depose a dictator and restore democracy, more than being a president who dissolved a puppet parliament, banished corrupt judges and abolished a dictatorial constitution, I appreciate Cory for being a woman of honesty, humility, courage, intergity, grace, love and faith. Aside from Mary, the Mother of God's and my own mother's there are only a few whose womanhood I truly admire and Cory's is one of them. It's not every day that you see someone who, despite being beset by human grief, lack of experience and a thick air of uncertainty, prayed, decided to take on her life's ultimate challenge-- that of running a country--and said, "Thy will be done." As the president, she may have made crucial albeit honest mistakes which still affect Filipinos today, but the biggest mistake would have been not saying "Yes." (photo by michael j. scott)
